Is Jesus God?
Is Jesus Christ God? Before you start reciting the words of your pastor or
the words written in a host of books written by men, let's explore what the Bible
says about this: "But to us is one God, the Father, to whom are all things, and we
to Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we by Him."
(1 Corinthians 8:6), "one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all
and in all." (Ephesians 4:5,6), "For God is one, also there is one Mediator of God
and of man, the man Jesus Christ." (I Timothy 2:5) "But when all things are subjected
to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who has subjected
all thing to Him, that God may be all things in all." (1 Corinthians 15:28), and,
"And they cry with a great voice, saying, Salvation to our God sitting on the throne,
and to the Lamb." (Revelation 7:10). From these few but clear verses, are there any
that promote Jesus as God? None promote Jesus as God but they do make clear that
God is "one". I ask you, for you own satisfaction, find a verse that states that
Jesus is God, if you've already read the entire Bible, this should make your search
easier and faster. Jesus Himself has shed light on this, "But Jesus said to him,
Why do you call Me good? No one is good except One, God." (Mark 10:18), "Do not let
your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me." (John 14:1), these
two verses certainly separate God and Jesus as two individuals. "And this is everlasting,
life that they may know You, the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent."
(John 17:3), "And Jesus said to her, Do not touch Me, for I have not yet ascended
to My Father, but go to My brothers and say to them, I am ascending to My Father
and your Father, and My God and your God." (John 20:17), and this verse points out
Christ's position in Heaven, as the Son of God. "Then indeed, after speaking to them,
The Lord was taken up into Heaven and sat off the right of God." (Mark 16:19). Sitting
off the right of God isn't sharing the throne as God, but He does share a position
in the Godhead, because He is the only-
The one and only God has a personal name, "Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God
is one Jehovah." (Deuteronomy 6:4), and as it plainly says, there is one Jehovah
and one God. "And now, O Jehovah our God, we pray to You, save us out of His hand,
and all the kingdoms of the earth shall know that You are Jehovah God, You alone."
(II Kings 19:19). There are many other verses like this in the Old Testament and
a few more New Testament verses expressing a separation between the Father and the
Son, "earnestly testifying both to Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God and faith
toward our Lord Jesus Christ." (Acts 20:21) "But I want you to know that Christ is
the Head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of
Christ." (I Corinthians 11:3) and "But the Mediator is not of one but God is one."
(Galatians 3:20). All these verses expose the reality that God Jehovah and the Lord
Jesus are two separate beings, plus the fact that Jesus is the only-
The next point to be made on the subject of Jesus being God, is that, before Jesus was born as the son of Mary, in Bethlehem, He was the Son of God, and indications are that His name was Michael, then, when He became the Son of man, His name was changed to Jesus. Not only was His name changed, His make up was also changed, He was lowered to just below the angels for the purpose of suffering death in order to establish our pending salvation. "but we do see Jesus crowned with glory and honor, who on account of suffering of death was made a little less then the angels, so that by the grace of God He might taste of death for every son." (Hebrews 2:9), and having been lowered from His original condition, He still and always will be divine, but Christ did not have all the powers as He possessed being the Son of God in Heaven, but only possessing our powers as a men, "Men, Israelites, hear these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man from God, having been approved among you by powerful deeds and wonders and miracles, which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourself also know." (Acts 2:22). However, Christ did maintain His ability to read hearts and retained His memory, for the tasks He was sent to do and for the memory of His Father, and Their relationship, which gave Christ the faith He needed to do the many miracles He performed during His first advent.
Jesus was sent to earth by God almighty, "Then teaching, Jesus cried out in
the temple, even saying, you both know Me, and you know from where I am. And I have
not come from Myself, but He sending Me is true, whom you do not know." (John 7:28)
and, "And this is everlasting life, that they may know You, the only true God, and
Jesus Christ, whom You have sent." (John 17:3), by His Father, plus Jesus is our
only way to the Father, "Jesus said unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6). This indicates
that Jesus is not to be our destination, but that Christ is the way to our destination,
which should be for all of us, the kingdom of God. Jehovah is the Father of both
Jesus and the human race: Jesus by inheritance, and humanity by Jehovah's creation.
As the verse says, Jesus has given us the truth, which originated in the His Father
and is contained in the words that His Father gave Him to give to us, these are the
words in the Book Jesus inspired to the many Bible writers. The third declaration
in this verse shows us the way to life everlasting, which God Almighty has made available
by His salvation plan, which Jesus established for His Father on the cross, shedding
His blood for our sake. Every verse presented here has indicated that Jesus, during
His first advent as the Son of man, was before, and still is, the Son of God, "Jehovah
possessed Me in the beginning of His way, from then, before His works. I was set
up from everlasting, from the beginning, before the earth ever was." (Proverbs 8:22,23),
and never was it written in God's word, "God the Son", only from the words of man
has these words come forth. In saying and believing that Jesus is the Son of God,
we are to following Jesus, as He has called us to do. But are we allowing our selves
to follow the words of man, above the words, which Christ has given us? Should we
discard the words from God Jehovah, Himself, "While he was yet speaking, behold,
a radiant cloud overshadowed them. And behold, a voice out of the cloud saying, This
is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I delight; hear Him." (Matthew 17:5) and the words
of Jesus, "Jesus heard that they threw him outside and finding him, He said to him,
Do you believe into the Son of God? And he answered Him and said, Who is He, Lord,
that I may believe into Him? And Jesus said to him, Even you have seen Him, and He
speaking with you is that One." (John 9:35-
The Son of God (Michael, now named Jesus) having come from His God (Jehovah),
the Father, being perfect in every way, then Jesus also is perfect in every way,
lacking only Jehovah's supreme authority. The Almighty God, Jehovah, having been
from all eternity, would have supreme authority over all life and over everything,
including His only-
