Almighty God

By the title of “Most High God”, there could only be one "And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, the most high God, the possessor of Heaven and earth." (Genesis 14:22). The Old Testament states that God is one. “Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God is one Jehovah. And you shall love Jehovah your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.” (Deut 6:4,5), another in the Old Testament, “Is there not one father to us all? Has not one God created us…” (Malachi 2:10). Many site Genesis 1:26 as proof that God is plural “And God said, Let Us make man in Our image…” But in verse 29, the same speaker says, “And God said, Behold, I have given you every plant seeding seed…” (Genesis 1:29), God used “I” and not “We”. God speaking of Himself was singular. God, who was speaking before in verse 26, used “Us" and “Our” so Jehovah God then, was talking to another equal being, which could only be His only-begotten Son. Now let the Bible distinguish whom the God and Father of the human race is, “And Jehovah, God formed the man out of the dust from the ground, and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7). Jehovah God blew the breath of life into Adam and, "And Jehovah God formed the rib which He had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man." (Genesis 2:22), and all of us are Adam and Eve's descendents. Humanity was started by Jehovah's breath of life and humanity has continued onward by their begotten sons and daughters, all possessing His breath of life. The Bible presents one name in the creation process, "Jehovah", but His Son was there at God's side during the creation process, "When He prepared the heavens, I was there; When He set the circle on the face of the deep;" (Proverbs 8:27), and "Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him." (Proverbs 8:30). I used the JKV because it was more accurate with the Hebrew text translation.

In the New Testament, “You believe that God is one. You do well, even the demons believe and shudder.” (James 2:19), and “For God is one, also there is one Mediator of God and of man, the man Jesus Christ,” (1 Timothy 2:5), also “one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, He above all and in you all.” (Eph. 4:5,6). “But the Mediator is not of one, but God is one.” (Galatians 3:20), “But to us is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through Him.” (1 Corinthians. 8:6), “Or is He the God of the Jews only, and not also of the nations? Yes, also of the nations, since it is one God who will justify circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.” (Romans 3:29,30), “And this is everlasting life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (John 17:3).

Does the words of Jesus give us any information on this subject? “But Jesus said to him, Why do you say Me to be good? No one is good except one, God.” (Luke 18:19) (Mark 10:18) (Matt. 19:17), Christ quotes Deut 6:4 (above) in Mark 12:29, but without God's name, Jehovah as it is in the Hebrew text, “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is: Hear Israel. The Lord our God is one Lord.” and the Pharisees confirms His quote in verse 32, “And the scribe said to Him, You say well, teacher, You have spoken according to the truth, that God is one, and there is no other besides Him." (Mark 12:32). "Jesus said, I praise You Father, Lord of heaven and earth…All things were yielded up to Me by My Father...” (Matt. 11:25,27), “…Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up.” (Matt. 15:13), “…but to sit off My right and to sit off my left is not Mine to give, but those for whom it was prepared by My Father.” (Matt. 20:23), “But about that day and the hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, except My Father only.” (Matt. 24:36). All these verses promote a singular God and Father and a separate Son of the Father, who shares glory with His Father in Heaven. “…What is it to me and to You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God…” (Mark 5:7) a demon declares the son-ship of Christ, of the “Most High God” by a being that knew Christ before His entrance as the Son of man. Christ speaks in the Old Testament declaring His beginning; "Jehovah possessed me in the beginning of His way, from then before His works. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning; before the earth ever was." (Proverbs 8:22,23). And of course, there are many more such verses. One needs to read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. As a result, you shall find and realize what is consistent throughout this one and only Book, written for our education, instruction and salvation, and that there is but ONE God. This is an important matter for consideration because many look at God as being more then one, a three-in-one mystery god. A mystery, only if you fail to read all God’s Book, authored by the “Word of God” Jesus, who is the only man (a man at His first advent) who personally knew God, Jehovah, His Father, as only a begotten son can. God is one, the Israelites know this and Christ’s apostils also knew this. Where did most Christians get this concept of a trio of beings as one god? If you search for this answer, you will find it, not in the Bible, but in the history books of man. This triune concept entered the Christian church during the fourth century.

Who is the “Almighty God? “And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, Jehovah appeared to Abram and said to him, I am the Almighty God! Walk before Me and be perfect.“ (Genesis 17:1). “And God spoke to Moses and said to him, I am Jehovah. And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, and by My name Jehovah, I never made myself known to them.” (Exodus 6:2,3), and in the New Testament, “A revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to Him to show to His slaves things which must occur quickly…” (Revelation 1:1). These verses together show that God is one and Christ is also one and separate from God Almighty because Jesus is the Son of God, begotten of the Father “For which of the angels did He ever say, You are my Son; today I have begotten You…” (Hebrews 1:5) and this is consistent throughout the Bible. In Numbers 24:16 you see all three titles used together “and saying to him who hears the words of God, and know the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, yet with open eyes.” verse 13 defines who he is speaking of, "Jehovah". For us to consider just one verse that would seem to negate these many other verses, we must assume the strong possibility that we are misunderstanding the one verse because all of God's word must be consistent throughout the Bible, understanding also that the Author is perfect, who inspired all the writers, and by reality, the word of God must be perfect. Seeking the consistency of all of God's word is the key to understanding the truth which He desires us to know and live by, therefore it is essential to read all of Jehovah's word and the closest to the original translation that you can find, is closer toward its purity of truth. A statement in the Bible that is not consistent may be due to an unfaithful translation, considering that much of the New Testament Greek is already a translation from its original text.
